PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE'S LESSONS LEARNT

I am a part of 16 members close discussion group comprising of highly qualified and successful people in their respective professions. We meet once in a month to discuss a topic of interest and every speaker gets a chance of talking for 5 to 10 minutes of time. Today’s topic of discussion was “what lessons life has taught us in these years, and mention five of the most significant ones”. Having the nature and composition of the group, I was expecting a high-level presentation of wisdom gained through lessons of their lives, but it was a bit disappointing for me. Therefore, I thought of writing this article to understand what types of lessons of life we learn during our life span, and how to distinguish or differentiate between those lessons from the intellectual perspectives.

Ordinary examples of lessons we learn in our daily life due to the cause and effects, can be given by any common person. But intellectual deliberation is possible only when a person has been able to learn the true meaning of life, while facing obstacles and deriving the qualitative lessons out of it during their entire span of life. The qualitative lessons learnt through experience is called wisdom, and that should have been the focus of discussion and not the lessons we learn in our routine life. Lessons learnt in routine life are also lessons, but it does not induce the cognitive abilities to convert them into wisdom. They are mere examples of cause and effects, that if we do not do this then that will not happen, or if we do this than this will be the outcome. They are more mechanical in nature and can be understood even by a child. Whereas qualitative lessons are more abstract and unique.

A person’s life is constantly on the curving path of knowing, understanding and experiencing while learning lessons from his or her action in the process. For example: a child learns not to play with fire or touch the hot stove, as it may burn his fingers. A young student learns to study hard otherwise he or she may fail in the examination. An employee learns to work sincerely at workplace otherwise, he may be fired. A person learns to obey law, otherwise he may be penalized or arrested for wrong doing. If we drive recklessly then we might encounter an accident. In case of animals as well, they learn their lessons of behaving properly otherwise they may not get their food etc. These are all mechanical in nature and anybody can guess or assume, that if you do or do not do this then that will happen. Likewise, there may be thousands of examples in our lives which provides us the lesson to learn, and  its implications during our life span. They are directly proportional to cause and effects and not ambiguous in outcome.

Therefore, based on the above narrative, we may categorize different types of lessons we learn in our lives and we may put them in four categories:

 1. Educative Lessons: Any action or process of learning which educates us in understanding the life for survival in day to day life can be termed as educative lessons. These lessons give an insight of understanding of the true nature of materials and matter, nature and its naturality, protection and probability, and safety and survivability. These lessons are the direct outcome of cause and effects.

  2. Subjective Lessons: People learn and gain lessons from various mediums such as from reading of books, magazines, novel, audio-visual medias, and social medias, and derive their lessons of life based on such information system or experiences of other people. These lessons may be good or bad in nature and they depend upon the quality of medium we are exposed to.

  3. Objective Lessons: Any source of information or experience which gives a meaning to life to think positively and provides strength to overcome the situation effectively, may fall under this category. The objective lesson emboldens the thought process and energizes one’s outlook towards life.

  4. Cognitive Lessons: Any lesson learnt, which forces our mind to think intellectually and perceive the inherent cause triggering such deliberations, may fall under this category. This type of lessons, is the direct outcome of high-level of analytical or critical analysis and pondering on thoughts resulting out of perceived experiences. This is unique in nature and requires a lot of self realization and churning of consciousness to realize the wisdom. These lessons change one’s personality, outlook, thought process, behaviour towards each other and sensitivities of life.

Now after categorizing the lessons, it can be further analysed by understanding the attributes of the above lessons learnt. Lessons learnt may not be positive always, but it can also cast a shadow in one’s mind negatively. Therefore, attributes of lessons learnt in life can be negative or positive or both.

Negative Attributes:
We learn the lessons of life through different path and experiences, and the process of experiencing, determines what lessons are going to help us in uplifting of our personality and mental standard. If our personality is of lower standard or if we grew in an environment full of negativity, then our lessons of life are mostly negative. For example, a businessman learns that by manipulating account books he can save a lot of money. A criminal learns the lesson how not to get caught after committing a crime. The lessons learnt in the aforesaid two examples, are to make money easy-way and protect being caught, but the ultimate impact or fall out, can be negative. In another example, if people are indulged in bribery, cheating, deceiving, flattery, sycophancy and if they gain and prosper by such methods, then their lessons of life would be filled with negative attributes.   Those who learn their lessons of life with negative attributes, suffers from stress, anxiety, jealousy, false pride, fearfulness, depression, obsession, and hypertension.

Positive Attributes:
If we learn quality lessons with positivity, then it gives an impetus to our personality. Our outlook towards people or the world change optimistically. We become enthusiastic, caring, loving, giving and understanding. A new synergy embodies our personality. We become hopeful, trusting, believing and joyful. The positive lessons provide a direction, hope and aspiration. Our minds are more relaxed, and a calm and tranquility pervades the personality. The life becomes more meaningful.

My lessons of life are largely influenced by my understanding of spiritualism. As a result, my presentation on the topic included the sum-total of my experience of life together with the wisdom earned through the process of learning.  Therefore, my presentation on lessons learnt were little away from the presentations made by other members. Here I have expanded them for clarity and for the readers to understand them philosophically.

  1. WHAT WE SOW, REAP THE SAME:
This lesson of life is quite universal, and everybody knows this principle of life affecting people. However, my context of lessons was focused on the family and children. Many people are so much self absorbed in developing their career or enjoying their own lives that they overlook or ignore the impacts they are making on children’s minds from the day one since their birth. They keep back biting people in front of them, use harsh or nasty languages at home, demonstrate their smartness or wickedness in fooling people or the social systems, disobey or insult their parents, use foul languages against their close family members, friends or neighbours, keep watching adult movies, smoke and drink in front of their children etc. They think that a baby or young child at home are unable to understand them or their language, or their outbursts or reactions, hence whatever they do is ok.

But babies or small children are watching everything, and an indirect registration is continuously going on to their subconscious mind. When they become adolescent, the subconscious mind starts unwinding and keeps showing them, whatever they saw, heard or listened as children. For them, every conversation or act they witnessed as children, are normal. Therefore, when they become adolescent, they start justifying words or actions he or she has heard or witnessed as a baby. When parents see their grown-up children’s bad behaviour then they are unable to understand why they are misbehaving with them or talking foul languages or gone astray. However, I do not rescind from the fact that there are exceptions, when children of extremely good parent, gone astray or Ratnakar dacoit becoming Sage Balimiki.

  2. GIVING AND LOVING DOES NOT GO WASTE:
The common nature of people is to give something to somebody and expect a return. This favor can be done in terms of money, materials, physical or emotional support. A parent educates their children in the hope of a return from them in terms of financial or physical support, when they are successful. A son keeps their parent at home so that they can cook or take care of their young children. A person donates money to charity so that he can get a tax relief or earn name and fame. We favor our friends and relatives and in turn we expect some short of return from them. We love our near and dear and expect the same response from them.

Therefore, the moment we have an expectation of a return or response; it is not giving or favouring out of love or affection; but it becomes a business. Loss and gains, ups and down are inherent nature of a business. There is no guarantee of perpetual gain or everlasting successes in business and in case of a loss, we get disturbed or depressed. The same way, if we do a favour to somebody and if that person does not respond the way we want, we get disturbed, frustrated and depressed. We also become upset, angry or revengeful.

My wisdom tells me that any giving or loving should be selfless and without any expectation, otherwise one should refrain themselves from such acts of falsely being generous. If the giving is done out of pure love, affection or helping somebody in dire need without intentions of favoring or profiting out of the situation, then such giving’s do not go waste, even if the recipient is unable to return the giving’s due to the personal or situational circumstances. As per the law of motion, every action has a reaction. Hence, any selflessly good work or giving out of love and affection or natural compassion, has to come back to the donor in this life. If the return, does not come in this life, then they have to come in the next life, or in the life of their children in various forms. They will never go waste. This is the reason that in this life, many people are startled, when they receive help from unknown sources or from the sources they do not expect.

  3. POSITIVE THINKING, HARD-WORK AND METHODICAL PLANNING ARE NOT THE ONLY MANTRAS FOR A SUCCESSFUL LIFE:

I have witnessed life like an observer, and experienced that despite positive thinking, hard work and methodical planning, one may not get desired results. There is some kind of force which pulls you down right upon reaching the peak or holds you back when you are about to achieve 100% result. There is no dispute that positive thinking, hard work and methodical planning are the main attributes for success in life, but there is also an invisible and subtle force, which either pushes you to the top with little efforts, or one gets everything without much efforts, or you are pulled down or loose everything by a stroke of luck despite your vision, positive attitude, meticulous planning and best efforts.

The anatomy of human brain is the same in case of every individual.  A group of people having same background, environment, education and exposures of life, should think and act the same way. But it is not the case. Everybody in a group think differently on the same topic. Has anybody thought what makes people think differently? Why children of the same parent grown up in the same environment, educated in the same school or college, having same friend circle, think differently on similar issues? Even Siamese twins are different in their thought process. This forces us to think that despite having the same hardware (anatomy);  our software (programming of our brain) is different, and somehow they are downloaded in our brain and makes every individual a unique person in the world. The downloaded software, programs our brains uniquely at different stages of our lives and forces us to think differently. As a result we act differently resulting in becoming a nice or gentle person or a wretched or horrendous person with our share of successes or failure. One can name it luck or karmic energy.

  4. KARMA IS THE SUPREME FORCE:

In the modern world, some talks about the zodiac signs and some quietly reads or watches on TV the general predictions based on their sign of birth. Whether they believe it or not, they do not dispute some similarities between the people having same zodiac signs. This is the reason that now top hiring managers in fortune 500 companies, hire people according to their zodiac signs and nature of work they are supposed to perform. For example, Geminites are very good in communication, sales and marketing; whereas Taurians look for practical pursuits and material rewards. Cancerians are astute and loyal but can be highly emotional. Leo’s can be intelligent and affectionate but crave to be the center of attraction and Virgos can be perfectionists to the core. Scorpions can be highly determined and Capricornians can be dependable, hard working but highly ambitious. Many people understand this and see these differences in day to day life in their family, society and at the work places, but unable to understand how it happens. Why people are different in nature and behaviour. There is no logical explanation of these differences in the modern world.

This is where the Indian age-old sciences of astrology, astronomy, palmistry, etc. come into the picture and only they can explain the cause of differences between the nature and behaviour of people. They provide tools to identify the karmic energies and understand their subtle impacts. The karmas of past lives are determining factors in the present life. This is the reason that every human being born on this earth have a predetermined path of their lives based on their karmas of past lives. Like a highway going to the fixed direction, whereas our efforts and positive thinking are side roads, which we develop with our hard work but ultimately culminates or merges into the same highway.

Those who are born with good karmas of past lives, achieve everything with ease, despite being a crook in this life and people born with bad karmas of past lives, keep suffering socially or economically despite being one of the finest person on earth. This variation in human’s life cannot be defined logically otherwise. The knowledge of western world is too primitive to understand or identify the cause of this difference, and as a result they keep linking this phenomenon to the most basic principles of cause and effects. To my mind, they are still in the process of evolution.

  5. The Inevitable:

This wisdom of mine require some understanding of spiritualism and an elevated level of thought process. To understand this philosophy, one must connect several dots of different sciences thoughtfully and holistically, that how people are born differently. And if they are born differently, think differently and act differently, then there must be some hidden reasons behind this act of nature. And these acts of nature, must be in the form of energy entering our brain at the time of birth or various stages of lives, influencing our thought process and decision-making abilities, besides our school or college education. Energies entering our brains, must also justify its content, origin and influencing factors characterizing its quality and resultant impacts. Sage and Seers have named this energy as karmic energy or influence of Karma. Therefore, the invisible force of karma must program a person’s brain automatically and uniquely, without providing any control on such programming process of his or her brains.

Electronically, when we download a program or music or a software from the internet, then a file system is created on the hard disk. The file system provides a ‘link’ or ‘icon’ in the start menu or the address or status bar of our desktop or laptop and on the screen of mobile phone to show location of the file, so that the file could be activated automatically or by a click of mouse or by a finger touch. The same way, when the software of karmic energy is downloaded automatically from the cosmic mainframe upon our birth; the ‘links’ or ‘icons’ of different file system in the brain is presented through the nerve endings on our palm, our face or other parts of the body, showing the types or characteristics of karmic energies stored in our brain and what is going to be their implied meanings. Generally, people claiming to be qualified and educated, rejects the importance of these signs, because they have not researched or studied various branches of science. To hide their ignorance, they reject its existence without validly justifying their own sufferings or road blocks they have faced or gone through in their lives in terms of their career, personal, professional, educational, health, family and finance.

Therefore, shape of our palm, fingers, mounts, lines and markings are formed as natural 'icons' linking the karmic software stored in our brain, and accordingly they depict what type of a person we are or going to be, or what holds for us during our lifetime. Our Sage and Seers were scientists par excellence and they have also demonstrated the proof of such karmic energies vis a vis their relationships with different planets and constellation system at the time of our birth, in the form of a natal chart. The natal chart shows, what type of karmic energies would be reflected by the planets and the constellation system for downloading into our brain at different stages of our lives. I have already explained this phenomenon in my various articles such Philosophy of Luck, Philosophy of Karma, Philosophy of Destiny. Philosophy of Life etc.

Hence, according to my wisdom, if our life is pre-programmed due to the automatic downloading of karmic energies into our brains, and as a result, we are forced to think, and act uniquely, then should we credit ourselves for our successes or demean or ridicule others for their failure? Are people, really responsible for their acts as they unknowingly act in a unique way? Everybody knows that wrong acts will bring bad or disastrous result, but is it avoidable? Can we re-program or change the mind of people the way we want? If we cannot, then are we justified in blaming them for their acts? Are they not hostage to their mind and helpless in their acts or bad behaviour? The acid in a metal bowl, eats away the container itself. Should we not feel pity on them because of their acidic mentality and pray to God for their well being and educate them to drain out the acidic thoughts from their mind instead of becoming hostile? But if they are pre-programmed cosmically, then no education or lessons in the world can change their mental configuration. They may make a dent but cannot change the hard wiring inside the brain. I am sure, these answers can be given by people having less education but more wisdom and not by the people having more degrees and less wisdom.

The philosophy "Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana, Ma Karmaphalaheturbhurma Te Sangostvakarmani"  (You have the right to work only but never to its fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction) was already explained by lord Krishna in Srimad Bhagwadgita. According to me in scientific language, lord Krishna wanted to convey the message that - "we have no control on our acts or in other words we have no control on the downloading of karmic energies from the cosmic mainframe in to our brains, which we inherit from our past lives, and hence, they automatically configure our minds and shape our present lives. Since we do not know what types of karma or karmic energies are going to influence our lives in this life; it is our duty to try hard and do our best righteously without attachment to impending results, as we do not know what karma holds for us or how our brain under the influence of karma will force us to think, behave and act differently affecting results".

If you like this article, then I will look forward for your valuable comments for the enlightenment of other readers. If you have any doubts or concerns about my above thought process, or if you disagree, then please feel free to provide your comments, so that a debate could be initiated to clarify the doubts.

PHILOSOPHY OF PSEUDO-INTELLECTUALISM

Over the years, as we all do, I began to note human nature, behaviour, character, ethical and moral standards in social and public lives -  especially in relation to their education and social position, professional success and political accomplishments at large. I have been also observing their understanding of family life and relationships with their parents, spouse, children, and siblings in addition to their understanding of faith, culture, belief, language, and etiquette. Also, their doctrine and understanding of altruism and idealism in relation to living as a nice human being.

It always amused me that some people who are apparently well-educated, and are socially, and financially successful in his or her career or profession are unable to understand the fundamentals of life such as differences and variability of human nature. Ignorance of the basic concepts of behavioral psychology that contribute to the differences that exist between different people and correlates to the lack of perspective many of us have and how to maintain a harmonious balance between each other. I always thought that higher education must be cultivating some intelligence to critically analyze the purpose of our existence, and must be empowering abilities to dive deep into our consciousness leading to the understanding of the fundamentals of life. I also believed that knowledge must result in enhancement of intellect and it should make a person humble, understanding, and accepting of people as they are.

I also thought that higher education or professional degrees from established universities should have induced the power of developing mental skills to understand that humans are different, not because of their family backgrounds, environments they grew up, and education, but something else which influences a variety of behaviours in them. And if people are forced to think and act differently because of that influence, and which is beyond their conscious control, then should we not be sympathetic towards them instead of becoming angry or upset?

In the absence of positive intellect, spiritual knowledge and fundamental understanding of life, many of the so-called highly educated people from prestigious universities, gold medalists and award winners, have become egoistic, selfish, self-centered, conceited, vain, arrogant, greedy, lustful and dishonest. Their personal happiness or sorrow, success or failure, pleasure or pain, comfort or discomfort matters more to them than others. In some cases, despite achieving high positions in personal and social lives, they are willing to compromise their values at the cost of honesty, ethics, and morality. I believe that, if positive intellect, enlightenment or understanding of life comes from getting higher education or professional degrees, then people in general should have been free from all malice, malevolence and meanness, as education may be having the power to encourage positive attitudes and shedding light on negative ones. But this is not the case with majority of the people around the world.

The purpose of this article is to bring up and highlight the misnomers between education, and intellect or so-called academicians and self proclaimed intellectual people around us. My premise is based on the several examples of public figures as well as my own personal encounters with those who are considered educated and have become socially and politically successful, but their thinking and behaviour does not match the expectation that comes with it. As such, I am forced to think about the importance and effect of education in a person’s life.

Some of the so-called highly educated people have also become myopic and are rampantly indulged in wrong-doings and engaged in the corruptions of society. I have also seen some “highly qualified” and so-called degree holders from prestigious universities and award winners, thriving on bigotry, flattery, and sycophancy. In the process, divine humanly qualities are lost and demonic qualities of greed and lust have overtaken them. Despite having university degrees, their misunderstanding of life in general breeds confusion, misinterpretation, bitterness, mistrust, suspicion, and in turn gives rise to anger, frustration, disrespect, and hatefulness. Hence, I am forced to think, are they really educated or just a bunch of degree holders around us?

Therefore, it seems the higher or professional education makes people subject matter experts and degree holders only, so that they can earn their livelihood based on the established system for filtration and selection to the publicised job. The college or university degree or specialization is good enough to shortlist them from the rest of the lot in the understanding of that vocation or specialization. It also shows that the sole purpose of obtaining higher degrees or professional qualifications in the world is to get a job, gain power or position and become a part of the blue or white colored work force for material successes.

Education provides the springboard to get a job or profession and achieve social or financial success. But it has its limitations and the moment its purpose is served for which a person has gone to school or university, the use of education takes a back seat. Therefore, intelligence is not directly proportional to the education.

With the expectation of the educated being enlightened in a myriad of ways, commoners are star struck and put them on a high pedestal. They fail to understand that research or degrees in IT, engineering, law, business, education, medicine or other professional and vocational degrees, makes people a subject matter expert and not an intellectual.

As per the dictionary’s meaning- “An intellectual is a person who engages in critical thinking, research and reflection about society and proposes solutions for its normative problems”. Another definition is - “It is the faculty of reasoning and understanding objectively, especially with regards to abstract matter”.
Therefore, intellectualism is the capacity to critically think, and it should be rational, logical, cognitive, analytical and should be able to analyse abstract matters. As mentioned earlier, whatever knowledge we gain through systematic education, provides a body of knowledge and tools to learn or profess a vocation for earning livelihood and becoming materially successful, but understanding abstract matters solely depends upon a person’s cognitive ability and it has no correlation with college or university degrees. Sometimes an illiterate can understand the meaning of life much better than degree holders from prestigious universities.

The word enlightenment has a very complex meaning. First and foremost, enlightenment must bring the capacity to analyze the mysteries of the human mind, a person’s nature, behaviour, and complexities of the world. It should also bring the knowledge of self, soul, and its relationship with the unknown or in other words divinity. Knowing the self makes a person kind and calm in nature, respectful, gracious, magnanimous, loving, caring, giving, trusting and overall a pleasant human being. When intellect searches for the truth, it leads to the enlightenment.

Therefore, if a person calls himself or herself educated in a cognitive sense then it must lead to intellect to understand life, otherwise they have obtained degrees only for the power, position and earn money. And if intellect comes with its purity then it should be able to reduce common human ills such as anger, greed, ego, jealousy, selfishness etc. University education provides the knowledge of prescribed books, whereas the true intellect brings enlightenment that has the capacity to stir the ocean of consciousness and allows our mind to dive deep to get the answers of the unknown. It also provides an answer to on how to co-exist with the nature, its heterogeneity, and tackle adversity.

After posting this article, the topic was also raised at the discussion group meeting, a private group consisting of intellectuals - engineers, nuclear engineer, doctor, professor, teacher, philosopher and psychologist. Majority of them are in late seventies and eighties and are socially recognized people. One of them is also a recipient of the highest award of Canada – “Order of Canada” for excellence in merit and professional excellence. All of them endorsed my thoughts on the topic, therefore it is pertinent to post their view points as well for your reading.

According to one of them the capacity of abstract thinking is a particular skill and for that people need not to be intelligent. Another analysis was that intelligence has the multiplicity of intellect. There is no one type of intelligence but cognitive intelligence, emotional intelligence, social intelligence etc. and one can be excellent in one type of intelligence and failure in other aspect of intelligence. Despite being cognitive intelligent, impulse control, anger management and egotism is a big problem for majority of the people. Yet another analysis was that the present higher education should not be called higher education but it is a training for a job. Even in Phd, people choose an easy way out and they are not able to think cognitively.

In past higher education was meant for rising above the learning basic facts and concepts and using that as platform to be able to think beyond it. That’s how one develops the trait of intellect which is further developed through analysis and synthesis.  There have been lot of non-educated people in past but highly intelligent such as Rahim, Kabir, Tulsidas, Firak Gorakhpuri etc and their poems were direct products of their intellect. It was further elaborated that intellect and intelligence are totally different things and there is no relationship between them. Intelligence is the ability to understand what is around you based on the subtlety of the situation. Scientists coming up with the unique inventions are the direct result of intellectual exercises. Whereas, all the engineers, physicians, lawyers, doctors, professors etc. have the education and training to profess and are practitioners of their traits or trade they have learnt, and cannot be considered as intellectuals.

Therefore, higher education provides a platform to become an intellectual but one can become an intellectual without higher education as well.  An intellectual can be very unethical also. Intellectually a person can determine what is in their best interest and how to manipulate a situation or maneuver people around them to suit their interest if the ethical background and value system is absent. In this case the impact of intellectualism will be modulated by the lack of ethics, integrity and honesty.

I hope my views and views of others on the topic will stir the readers mind to ponder about the modern education system, drum beating of the so-called intellectuals from renowned universities and its relation to pseudo-intellectualism.

PHILOSOPHY OF DESTINY

Incidentally the topic ‘destiny’ was discussed today in our discussion group meeting. This group is comprised of like-minded seniors and successful people with strong intellect that meets every month and selects a topic of interest for intellectual deliberations. I am fortunate to be a part of this group and enjoy contributing my 2 cents and understanding of life. In the meeting, everybody's presentation of their knowledge on the topic was par excellence from an intellectual point of view, but the scientific and spiritual points of view were amiss. As far as I am concerned, I have already expressed briefly my understanding of this unfathomable, invisible, and invincible influence in our lives in previous articles. In this article, I have tried logically to elaborate on my spiritual and philosophical views.

Everybody in the world, at some stages of their lives, must have
felt that things did not happen in their lives the way they wanted; despite of their best possible efforts according to their mental and physical abilities, educational and intellectual capacity, and options or alternatives they have or had at that particular time. Not many people can state that the events in their career, education, social success, marital relationship, health and well-being, material gain, bonding with siblings and children etc. went exactly as they planned. If they say in affirmation, then the person is either God incarnate or overlooking the results in its totality or perhaps falls in 0.000001% of the world population that turned out to be extremely "lucky". That is why majority of the world believe in luck, fate, destiny, God's hand or unexplained forces to solace themselves for their success or failure.

It is easy to talk on a complex topic like destiny and explain its meaning intellectually but it is very difficult to prove its existence or convincingly demonstrate how it works. Those who negate its existence completely, are also unable to explain certain events in their lives in which they had no willful control. Therefore, when we think of destiny, several questions come to our minds.

  • Is success or failure only due to right or wrong decisions made by us?
  • If it is due to the right or wrong decisions then why we make such decisions?  What triggers the difference in our thought processes?
  • Is it fate or predetermined prophecy made by natural forces?
  • Is it due to the cause and effect theory of karma or is it the sum total of our actions in this life and previous lives?
  • Do we decide our destiny by willful action and by hard and persistent efforts only?
  • Are we the maker of our own destiny and responsible for our own successes or failures?
  • If we are responsible for our own destiny and whatever happens in our lives due to our willful action only, then why we do not have 100% control on the results of our every desire or willful action?
  • As humans, if we would have 100% control on our willful action then Christ would not have been crucified, Lord Rama would not have been banished in the forest for 14 years, and there would not have been dissatisfaction, unhappiness, pain and sorrows all around us in the world.
Therefore, it is pertinent to think about the influence of destiny and how it dictates our lives differently in different people all over the globe. If not, then how are two or more siblings different in nature, character, behavior, thoughts and action despite having the same environment, parenting, schooling, and opportunities? If the influence of karmic energies through planets and stars would not have played a role in our lives, then how do people born under different zodiac signs act, behave, think, or perform differently?

Why Aries are different from Pisceans, or why Geminis are different from Capricornians in nature and attitude etc.? Why is there commonality between the people born under the same zodiac sign? If not, then how anyone having the knowledge of western zodiac signs, can easily guess or predict people's behavior and nature as angry, lovable, naive, stubborn, friendly, flirtatious, mischievous, selfish etc. ?

If one’s hard work, positive outlook, and unfettered effort could have brought positive results, then why it does not happen in the case of those who put forth their efforts with similar conviction? It is easy to demean a person by saying that the person could not succeed due to his or her wasteful or unfocused efforts. But who can decide the parameters of efforts for success with absolute precision for obtaining a fail proof outcome?

There can be hundreds of related questions and it would be hard to find answers academically or intellectually unless we take the shelter of spiritualism. Spiritualism helps us in diving deep into our consciousness to search for the answers, such as - who are we? Do we have a purpose? Why we have come to this earth and what influencing factors shape our lives?

As far as science is concerned, no one scientific analysis or theory
is going to prove the mystery. We need to think out of the box and try to analyze this celestial phenomena by combining various branches of science; human soul and its transition from body to body; anatomy and physiology of a human body; complexity of the human brain and the role of the nervous system; constellations of stars and planets and their roles in our lives; the astrological sciences proving the impact of planetary influences in our lives; science of palmistry depicting celestial interference's by way of a diagram on our palms and thus showing the path we are destined to follow etc.

To make this article readable and short, I have tried to make a link between them and present a convincing philosophy in proving the logic once again. Karma is proportionately related to destiny; hence you may read my previous article ‘Philosophy of Karma’ for better understanding. In this article, I have tried to make a concise effort in describing destiny.

We all know that every action has a reaction, therefore every mental or physical action we perform in our lives generates energy and we may call it ‘Karmic Energy’. Karmic Energy can be positive or negative and it depends upon our thought processes or actions. The karmic energy can provide direct results to the producer in the form of willful action in day to day life and it may in turn determine the path to destiny.

Therefore, the quality of karmic energy is an important factor in influencing our thought process which directs our mind for willful action. Without having a thought in the brain, no willful action can be made and if the willful action is made then it has to bring good or bad results on which we have no control.

We also know that once energy is produced, it cannot be destroyed but it can be transformed into different forms of energy. Our minds keep producing karmic energies according to our intentions. These karmic energies have different wavelengths and frequencies depending upon the intensity of the mental or physical dynamics that occur in our mind. If the thought process is very intense then the karmic energy vibrates at greater frequency but has shorter wavelength and vice versa. Our strong desire to get something, a strong liking or disliking of someone or something, anger for someone etc. produces high intensity karmic energy.

Therefore, karmic energies produced by us emanate from our brain and reverberates in this universe. They are bar-coded which means these energies have the ability to identify its producer the way sound energy produced by a cell phone can exactly recognize the receiving cell phone in different parts of the world. The way soundwaves or radiowaves travel through the space and hit the spaceship or space station or satellites, and come back to the receiving station with the execution of prompted command from the ground control; the same way karmic energies produced by us keep going back and forth in the universe and looking for the matching planets or stars for reflecting back to the producer.

I am going to use the analogy of a computer to explain my understanding of the above concept. In our case, human brains are the transmitter or transponder or receptors of karmic energy and the soul is the prime beneficiary. Positive or negative karmic energies produced by us in past lives come back to us from the cosmic mainframe and hit our transponder (brain) for downloading and creating a file system, so to speak. These energies ultimately hard-wire the brain cells positively or negatively and influence our thought process for willful action which then leads to good or bad results in this life.

One may argue that how come 'bad people' in our society still thrive with material success and hold political or social power without much personal damage or destruction?

In my opinion, in this life our brain is already programmed according to the karmic energies of past lives received at the time of birth and the programming of the brain also creates a firewall system which allows selected karmic energies for which a file system is already present in the brain to get in from the cosmic mainframe as we age. A shield is also created in the form of body aura which is unique for every individual. This is the reason that good or bad energies of this life cannot benefit or harm the producer immediately and keeps reverberating in the universe until a conducive environment is found for downloading at the time of re-birth of the soul.

This is also the reason that everybody thinks or acts differently and it is hard to find the exact same thoughts in two people. This proves the existence of unknown forces interfering in our thought process which determines the qualitative and willful action.

If we do not believe in karmic energy and its qualitative outcome, then everybody in the world should have been a carbon copy in their thought process on similar topics. As a matter of fact, the anatomy of the brain and the nervous system carrying the mental messages for converting thoughts into action is the same in its chemical or physical compositions and nobody can precisely say that I have more neurons or axons in brain than the others or that my nervous system carrying those mental messages is superior to others.

Now, the Soul resides in the form of energy in us and constantly interacts with our mind having the ever changing file system being updated time to time depending upon the position of planets and constellations of stars in the sky and thereby reflecting karmic energies back to our brains. According to astrological sciences, the duration of such celestial communications to our brain determines the period of Dasha (time), Antardasha (intervening period of time) and Mahadasha (longer period of time). If an astrologer says that the person is going through the Mahadasha or Antardasha of Sun, Venus or Saturn then it may mean that the karmic energies related to these planets will continue interacting prominently with our karmic files present in the brain until the period of such antardasha or mahadasha

Now when does the process of downloading karmic energies start? To my understanding, the umbilical fluid present in the mother’s womb protects a fetus from all kinds of cosmic rays and energies and the moment a baby takes birth, the protective shield is gone and the baby is exposed to the outside environment and the infinite universe. At this stage, his or her soul through the transponder (brain) starts receiving and exchanging data with the cosmic mainframe. Karmic energies of past lives floating in the universe are reflected back by the planets and constellations present in the sky. This is the reason that the karmic energies having greater intensity but shorter wavelength immediately comes to the newly born baby and interacts with the soul.  Since planets are nearer to earth than the constellations of stars, they make immediate impacts and play a major role in shaping our lives by reflecting back karmic energies of past lives to us.

Every planet and constellations of stars are unique in identifying and reflecting specific types of karmic energies back to us. Reflection of the quantity or strength of positive or negative energies depend upon the producer of these energies in past lives. The position of planets at the time of birth is going to tell an astrologer how the quantum of planetary effects reflecting corresponding energies are going to affect a child's life.

Any astronomer can also tell the degree of positioning of planets or stars in the sky and their distance in light years from the earth at the time of birth of a child. Since Earth is revolving on its pole and half of the earth is always dark at any given time, the distance from a particular place on earth to planets and stars vary. This determines the ascendancy and descendancy of planets and can be seen on our natal charts. These variations in the sky and changing patterns determines the reflection of such karmic energies to a newborn at the time of birth which ultimately programs the brain for specific thinking resulting in a peculiar behavior and action in later stages of life.

This is the reason that a child's time and place of birth is very important to ascertain exact celestial positions in the sky and their corresponding effect on a child's life. When I say corresponding effect, I mean the capacity to reflect specific types of karmic energies in this life back to the person which was produced in the past life or lives. If one can study astrology and logically analyse the close connections between the planets and astrological forecasts holistically then it would be easy to understand my logic.

Now an important question comes into the picture: what is the proof of celestial intervention in our lives? In response, I would like to deliberate that nature has provided us proof of every natural phenomenon. If we are unable to understand or decipher these proofs or are unable to unfold their mysteries, then it is our lack of knowledge and mental education. Medically, billions of wire-like nerves originate from neurons and axons of the brain connecting every and each cell of our bodies to the brain. Therefore, if there is any change in the brain cells due to karmic energy downloads, then they must show the change in the form of results somewhere in the body.

According to the science of palmistry, the downloading report of karmic energies are published through nerve endings of the brain on our palm.  It is a matter of experts to decipher the coded reports for our reading and understanding. If one can study astrology and palmistry carefully, then they will find a close relationship between these two sciences. If according to astrology, Jupiter or Mars is prominent in the natal chart then a person's mount of Jupiter or Mars on his or her palm has to be well developed. And if a person's natal chart shows Sun or Saturn at the lowest degree then his or her palm must show the depressed mount of Sun or Saturn or weak corresponding lines of Sun or Saturn.

As such, an astrologer can make predictions of a person's life story precisely, if read properly. The karmic energy having low frequency but longer wavelength travels far beyond to constellations such as Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Libra etc. and takes some time in coming back to the soul or commences the downloading process of karmic energies at different stages of life depending upon its distance and position in the sky at the time of birth. Therefore, effects of Nakshatras (constellations of stars) are more feeble than the Grahas (planets).

So we can safely say that a connection gets established immediately once a soul is exposed to the universe and the cosmic energy interacts with it from time to time depending upon the frequency and wavelength of karmic energies, resulting in impacting our lives positively or negatively on different stages of our lives. This is the reason that sometimes we are taken aback by the adverse outcome of our willful actions - because the karmic energies impacting our brain cells changes the thought process for good or bad without our conscious knowledge.

To explain the above, the impact of karmic energies through planets and constellations are codified in the brain. Nerves originating from the brain cells containing files of karmic energies run through the body and ends at our palm and fingers. They create unique impressions on our palms and fingers in the form of lines such as Lines of the Heart, Brain, Life, Fate etc. and by way of raising or depressing mounts on our palms such
as Mounts of Venus, Jupiter, etc. Various signs are also displayed such as a Star mark, Island, Rectangle, Triangle, Chain or broken lines etc. showing signs of specific future events as we grow.

Fingers are also classified under different shapes and categories
such as club, conical, square, rectangle, pointed etc. Therefore, a palm can tell a whole lot of stories about a person's past lives, nature, character and impending future events. It is also worth noting that it would be absolutely unusual to find two people having the same designs or structure of the palm with similar lines or mounts. This again proves that they have nothing to do with the biological  or genetic evolvements but some kind of unusual phenomenon inexplainable to modern science.

A good and genuine palm reader or a palmist can provide startling revelations of one’s life which can be mind boggling and nobody can explain how a palmist or an astrologer knows so much about him or her.

Likewise, a good natal chart reader can predict one’s entire life in advance or at the time of birth. I would urge that one educate himself or herself before dismissing and negating astrology or palmistry.

Our saints and sears were great scientists and they had already measured the distance between Earth and all the planets, and constellations thousands of years back. As of today, modern scientists still have no clue how they measured distances with such precision.  One of the saptarishis (seven saints), Bhrigu Maharaj has already written a book ten thousand years back predicting the past and future life of several individuals based on the movement of planets and constellations in the sky. He drew 500,000 natal charts with precise calculations. His work is called ‘Bhrigu Samhita’. This also shows that our life is predetermined and whatever we are today it is not only our efforts and due to our willful action or choices, but also good or bad deeds of previous lives influencing our thought processes which are transformed into specific willful actions resulting in intelligent or foolish decisions.

After discussing the topic of destiny, one can now very well understand that people are bestowed with luck which comes to them due to their punyakarmas (good deeds) of past lives. It is able to provide an explanation for the successful results obtained by the bad of society, and the suffering of the good. The good deeds of past lives act like a shield and helps protect the person in most. But it does not mean that bad deeds of a past life will never harm them. Therefore an astrologer can predict the good time or bad time in a person's life. Corrective measures are only a solace and provides mental strength to overcome obstacles, otherwise effects of karma are indestructible and unchangeable. It will reward or haunt us somewhere in the cycle of birth, death and re-birth.

Despite knowing the truth of life and having some spiritual understanding, I am not a fatalist and neither advocate one to become fatalist even after having some understanding of the destiny. We do not know exactly what types of karmic energies are bestowed upon us or what kind of baggages (karmas of past lives) we are born with and how and when karmic energies are going to strike us for good or bad with precise date and time. This is not to say that there is no free will. However, since most of us are not acutely self-aware or attuned to cosmic influences upon us, many times when we look back at our decisions, we question them. We ask ourselves why we did not think differently, or choose differently. Therefore, our duty is to perform willful actions with conscious choice, truthfulness, righteousness and to the  best of our knowledge and belief, and leave the results on destiny to decide. This is what  is propagated by Lord Krishna in Bhagwadgita as well.

Therefore, to understand the role of destiny in deciding our life path, we must make a holistic approach in understanding what we think or do in our lives. We should never forget that it is going to reward or punish us in this life or next lives for sure. This comes back to the scientific idea that every action has a reaction. Unless we understand the role of destiny in one’s life, we will never understand why people with high moral and ethical characters sometime suffer more and bad people having immoral characters’ flourish and thrive.  The answer lies in the karmic energies and the resulting destiny.

Your comment and suggestions would further enlighten my thought process and for that, I would remain grateful.
